Balenciaga

Cristobal Balenciaga revolutionised women's fashion in the 1950s using sculptural silhouettes. Nicholas Ghesquire became creative director in 2003 with the introduction of the "classic" bag line. His creative design and respect for the original style turned Balenciaga into a highly acclaimed fashion house. The Gucci group bought Balenciaga in 2001. In 2012, Nicholas Ghesquire was replaced by Alexander Wang who was then followed by Georgian-born, Demna Gvasalia. In March 2016, Gvasalia showcased his first collection as the new artistic director of Balenciaga. He is also at the helm of Vetements, a designer collective. Balenciaga remains a covetable luxury brand with a cult status following.
